Simple Ways to Save Electricity and Money in your Apartment

Electronics - Turn off and unplug any electronics and chargers not in use.  These items can continuously use electricity as long as they are plugged in.  An easy way to manage this is by plugging multiple items into the same power strip and cutting off the power strip when you are finished.  When picking out appliances, such as TV’s, look for good energy star ratings that help you save electricity even while the appliances are running.

Reduce Paper Consumption - Pay bills online to reduce the amount of paper you waste.  This also cuts down on the clutter in your small space.  

Travel - Walking and biking help you to reduce emissions, save money on fuel, and stay healthy.  If the city you live in has a public transportation system, that is another great way to save both money and the environment.   

In the Kitchen - When you go to cook dinner, consider using your microwave or toaster oven as much as possible.  The conventional oven uses much more electricity heating up than these smaller appliances.  When you do use your larger oven, keep the door closed as much as possible; opening it can reduce the temperature inside by 25 degrees each time.
