Kingsport is the starting point for the historic trail set by Daniel Boone in 1775. This trail weaves through Tennessee, Virginia, and ends in Kentucky. It was an important link between frontier trails in the early days of American history and is an educational and fun road of exploration today. Twenty four markers have been placed along the trail to signify places and events of historical importance. A hike on the trail is an excellent way for people of all ages to enjoy the beautiful Appalachian atmosphere and experience the terrain as Americans did hundreds of years ago.

Exchange Place

The Exchange Place is a living history museum, exhibiting the way Tennesseans lived during the 1850’s. Visitors can experience life on a farm the old fashioned way as they encounter livestock and those maintaining the farm. The Exchange Place farm hosts several many festivals throughout the year as well, including the Spring Garden Fair, Farm Fest, Fall Folk Arts Festival, Witches Wynd, and Christmas in the Country.

The Netherland Inn

The Netherland Inn no longer serves as a functioning inn, but is currently maintained as a museum. The building housing the inn was originally built in 1802 and has been preserved to give visitors an idea of what life was like in 19th century Kingsport. Each floor served a specific purpose: the three floors were a tavern, the owners’ livings quarters, and guest rooms, respectively. Several notable Americans visited the inn during its functioning years, including Andrew Jackson, James Polk, and Andrew Johnson.

Kingsport Speedway
